Caustic Soda Flakes for Soap Making – 99% Pure 25 kg Bags in Oman

Caustic soda flakes for soap making are the one raw material a soap maker cannot substitute. Without sodium hydroxide there is no saponification, and without saponification there is no soap. UV Water Systems supplies 99% pure caustic soda flakes in sealed 25 kg bags from Al Ghaith Industries, Abu Dhabi, and delivers anywhere in Oman.

Why soap makers choose caustic soda flakes for soap making
Flakes dissolve faster and more predictably than pearls or beads, and they are easier to weigh out accurately on a bench scale. For cold process and hot process soap, that accuracy decides whether the finished bar is mild or lye-heavy.
- 99% purity — a known, consistent alkali strength, so your lye calculations hold from batch to batch.
- NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certified — the same grade used in drinking water treatment, not an industrial off-spec grade.
- Low insolubles — no gritty residue left in the lye solution.
- Sealed 25 kg bags — caustic soda absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from Oman’s humid coastal air, and an intact bag keeps it dry.

How much lye does a soap batch need?
Every oil has its own saponification value, so the lye quantity changes with the recipe. Coconut oil needs roughly 0.183 g of NaOH per gram of oil, olive oil roughly 0.135 g. Run your exact oil blend through a saponification calculator, then apply a 5% superfat so a little oil stays unsaponified and the bar finishes mild.
A 25 kg bag covers a large amount of production. At a typical 13–14% lye-to-oil ratio, one bag is enough for roughly 180 kg of oils, which is several hundred bars.
Safe handling and storage
Caustic soda causes severe burns on contact with skin and eyes. Treat it with the same respect a workshop gives to any Class 8 corrosive.
- Wear chemical splash goggles, nitrile gloves, long sleeves and closed shoes.
- Always add flakes to water, never water to flakes. The reverse can boil and spit.
- Mix in a ventilated area or outdoors. The solution heats to 80–90 °C on its own and releases vapour.
- Use stainless steel, HDPE or polypropylene containers. Never aluminium, tin or zinc — caustic attacks them and releases hydrogen.
- Keep a running water supply within reach. On contact, flush with plenty of water and get medical advice.
- Store sealed, off the floor, in a dry room away from acids and away from food.
Other uses beyond soap
The same grade is used for pH correction in reverse osmosis and boiler feed water, clean-in-place cycles in food and beverage plants, membrane cleaning, and drain and pipeline degreasing. Buying a full bag rarely goes to waste in a workshop or a plant.
