This water softener uses the ion exchange method to remove calcium and magnesium—the two primary minerals that cause hardness in water. It replaces these minerals with sodium or potassium ions, effectively softening the water. In many cases, it also reduces soluble iron (ferrous), which can stain fixtures and laundry.

How It Works: Ion Exchange Process

The resin tank inside the softener is filled with beads that hold sodium or potassium ions. When hard water flows through the tank, calcium and magnesium ions are attracted to the resin beads and are swapped with sodium or potassium ions. This exchange effectively removes the hardness from your water.

Over time, the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals and needs to be regenerated. This is done automatically through the brine tank, which flushes the hardness minerals away and recharges the resin with fresh sodium or potassium ions.
