Avidity Science in Oman Clinics: Small System, Same Water Problem
[IMAGE 1 — Avidity benchtop unit with under-bench pre-treatment]
Avidity Science units — Duo, Solo, Puro — are chosen for space. A small clinic or research facility needs Type I, II and III water without giving up a floor-standing footprint, and a benchtop unit delivers exactly that.
Small footprint does not mean small water problem. The feed water is the same feed water a hospital plant gets. The unit protecting you from it is just smaller.
Why the small unit suffers more, not less
A benchtop system has less pre-treatment media, less resin volume and a smaller RO element than a floor-standing one. Its consumables are sized on the assumption that the water arriving is already reasonable.
Feed it Oman mains directly — 200 ppm TDS on good desalinated supply, 800–1,200+ ppm where tanker or well water is blended in, hardness commonly 300–600 ppm as CaCO₃, free chlorine present in the network — and the small consumable saturates proportionally faster than a large one would.
Clinics see this as cartridges that “never seem to last” and a unit that alarms more than the datasheet suggests it should.
The cost nobody separates out
In a small clinic there is usually no dedicated lab water budget. Cartridge purchases go into general consumables and the pattern is invisible. What is visible is the annoyance: another change, another call-out, another day where the analyser is down waiting for a part.
Add up a year of it and the pre-treatment skid was the cheaper option from month one.
Pre-treatment at clinic scale
You do not need a plant. For a benchtop Avidity unit an under-bench or wall-mounted pre-treatment set does the job:
- Sediment filtration
- Activated carbon for chlorine — the single most important stage for protecting the unit’s RO element
- Compact softener sized to clinic daily draw
- Small RO stage on Dupont Filmtec membranes, delivering 5–20 ppm TDS to the inlet
Footprint is modest, installation is a half-day, and cartridge life on the Avidity unit goes to rated or better. Consumable and service spend drops 70% or more.
If you run more than one unit
Clinics with a Duo in the lab and a Solo elsewhere, or a group with several branches on the same building supply, should look at a single shared pre-treatment set with a short distribution run. Cost per litre drops sharply and there is one thing to service instead of three.
What we do
UV Water Systems supplies and installs RO pre-treatment for laboratory water systems of every size in Oman, from a single benchtop clinic unit to hospital plant. We measure your feed water first — pH, TDS, hardness, chloride, free chlorine — and size to it.
The set installs upstream of your existing Avidity unit. Nothing about the unit or how you use it changes.
