Water Resources
There are two main types of water resources in the Sultanate of Oman. conventional water resources (natural) including surface and groundwater. This present about (87%).
The non-conventional water resources including desalination water and treated wastewater that present about (13%).
The main city muscat is close by the Arabian sea. The Groundwater quality becomes brackish and saline in the coastal area. So the city has great water distribution network from the desalination plants.
Quality of Municipal Water
As the seawater is treated by the distillation process. It is free from Dangerous contaminants like lead or Mercury. The TDS level is between 250 ~ 350 ppm. The total hardness normally 50 ppm & pH between 7~8.5.
Chlorine is dosed to prevent bacteria and other microbes. The Chlorine can be absorbed through physical consumption as well as through your skin while bathing. Chlorine can dry skin and hair and cause irritating effects to your eyes and nose. The chlorine levels are normally below 0.4 ppm in the city water supply.

Sedimentation
