Water quality needed before the UV
UV light must reach every drop. Cloudy water, iron or hardness scale on the sleeve will shade bacteria from the light. For reliable results we work to these limits at the UV inlet:
- Turbidity below 1 NTU
- Iron below 0.3 mg/L and manganese below 0.05 mg/L
- Hardness below 120 mg/L as CaCO3, or a softener ahead of the unit
- UV transmittance above 75%
Muscat municipal water usually meets these after a 5 micron sediment filter. Well water in Barka, Sohar or the interior often needs a softener or RO first. Does UV change the taste of water?
No. UV adds no chemical and leaves no by-product. The water tastes the same as it did after the pre-filter.
Can I use UV instead of an RO system?
UV disinfects but does not reduce TDS, salts or heavy metals. For drinking water we normally fit the 1 GPM unit after an RO system, so you get both purification and disinfection.
Which size do I need for a villa in Muscat?
Most villas with 4 to 6 bathrooms run well on the 12 GPM model on the main line. Larger villas or those with a pool house usually need 24 GPM.
