Does the UV need power all the time?
Yes. Keep it switched on. Turning UV off and on shortens lamp life, and water passing while it is off is not disinfected.
Is the water safe to drink?
The water is filtered and disinfected. If your TDS is high, add an RO in the kitchen for drinking.
